Cochrane Oral Health Group
The Cochrane Oral Health Group registered with The Cochrane Collaboration in June 1994. The editorial base was initially set up in the USA under the co-ordinating editorship of Alexia Antczak Bouckoms. In August 1996 the editorial base was transferred to Manchester within the University's School of Dentistry, with Bill Shaw and Helen Worthington as Co-ordinating Editors.
The Group aims to produce systematic reviews which primarily include all randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of oral health. Oral health is broadly conceived to include the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of oral, dental and craniofacial diseases and disorders. Cochrane Oral Health Group scope and topics.
Oral Health Group protocols (details of planned reviews) and reviews are published on the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) on The Cochrane Library, a regularly updated collection of evidence-based healthcare databases available on CD-ROM and on the Internet. The Group has published 80 systematic reviews and 71 protocols with further reviews and protocols in preparation and 32 registered titles.
The Group also maintains a Trials Register which is submitted every quarter for publication in the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) on The Cochrane Library.
The work of the Group is carried out by over 650 members from 40 different countries around the world. Members contribute to the Group in many different ways: preparing systematic reviews; peer reviewing; manually searching journals; translating articles; offering consumer input. We welcome new members from many different backgrounds and with a range of interests at any time.
Activities of the Group are co-ordinated and supported by the Editorial Team located at the editorial base at the School of Dentistry, The University of Manchester, United Kingdom.
On 30-31 May 2006, a conference was held in Manchester, UK, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Cochrane Oral Health Group. The first day of the conference reviewed what has been achieved.
